In memory of Nathan
Raun, the Lincoln Rebels initiated a special award in 1999 to be presented
annually to a player
from the 14-year-old Rebels team. The player
selected to receive this award would exemplify what our friend and teammate,
Nathan, stood for in life and death.
Those involved in selecting the recipient of the Nathan Raun Award include the 14-year-old team coaches and Coach Randy Brolhorst. This award is presented at the end of each Rebels season, and the permanent award plaque occupies a prominent place in the Raun home.
Nathan, #8, became a Lincoln Rebel in 1997. He played one season for the Rebels 11/12-year-old team, and then played for the Rebels 13-year-old team during the fall of 97 before being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in January of 1998. Nathan died on November 25, 1998.
It is the hope of the Lincoln Rebels organization that the Nathan Raun Award will be a true inspiration to all our players, just as Nate was to all who knew him.
The 2009 Nathan Raun Award was presented to:
Tony McWilliams and Sam Tewes
