2007
Lincoln Rebels Exemplary
Service Award
Randy and Kathy Brolhorst

In 2007, the seventeenth year of the Rebels baseball organization, we honor two of the most esteemed members of our baseball family with the 2007 Rebels Exemplary Service Award: Randy and Kathy Brolhorst.
Since the beginning of their dedicated involvement with the Rebels sixteen years ago, Randy and Kathy have not only played a critical role in the administrative work of the Rebels, but can be directly credited for our teams’ impressive successes on the field for all of those years. Without their steady guidance and dedicated leadership, the Rebels would simply not be the strong, disciplined, successful baseball organization that it is today.
In 1991, following the Rebels’ first successful season, the leadership of the Rebels approached Randy to consider coaching the new 12 year-old team and to lead player development for the Rebels. Randy’s knowledge and experience as a youth baseball coach and Head Baseball Coach of Lincoln Southeast High School would both enhance the integrity of the Rebels program and serve the developmental needs of all Rebels players for the future growth and success of the organization. And the rest, as they say, is history.
From the beginning, Coach B’s goal was to make a significant impact on the level of competitive baseball in Lincoln. He wanted to put the Rebels program on a level with the most notable select baseball teams in the area at that time – the Omaha Gladiators, the Omaha Pacesetters, and the Omaha Cardinals – an accomplishment that would also begin to raise the level of play at Lincoln high schools and eventually put Lincoln teams in contention for state titles. Through skills training and top coaching on what has become six total Rebels teams, that vision has been fulfilled, and the entire city of Lincoln owes a great debt of gratitude to Randy and Kathy for the significant impact they have made on the Lincoln baseball community. Their contribution to baseball can be felt throughout our state and region, and many of the Lincoln area’s most successful baseball players at the high school, college and professional level owe much of their success to the Rebels program and the Brolhorsts directly.
While Randy has become a visible icon for the Rebels on youth baseball fields throughout our state and region, Kathy has exercised her “behind the scenes” organizational skills over the years in countless activities for the Rebels. From outfitting players in Rebels uniforms to serving as official scorekeeper, Kathy has done it all. Among past and present Rebels, she is probably best known for organizing our annual Rebels team tryouts. Her hard work and efforts in stocking our teams with local talent is one of the most significant elements in our formula for success.
Together, Randy and Kathy are a tandem that inspires all of us to work hard and lead by example. Because of the humble leadership and dedicated support that they have so unselfishly given to the Rebels over the years – simply for their love of baseball and the feeling of fulfillment that goes with making a difference in the lives of young people – we feel a deep sense of gratitude. We are proud to call them friends, and to share their pride in an organization that they have so faithfully led throughout the years.
Thank you, Randy and Kathy!
