I began
coaching in North Platte when I was sixteen. I started coaching softball
in the summers until I was twenty. Then I went over to baseball and coached
there for four years before I moved to Lincoln. I coached the
North Platte Titans
and the North Platte Legion baseball teams. When I moved to Lincoln I took a
year off and the next year I was asked to help with YMCA and that was
when I decided I needed to get with an organization.
This is my first
year with the Rebels, and so far it has been great. I am coaching the
nine's and they are a bunch of great kids.
I played basketball
and soccer in high school I liked baseball but gave it up to concentrate
on basketball and soccer.
I went to Pillsbury
College in Owatonna, MN to play basketball. I ended up trying out for
the soccer and baseball teams and made them. My freshman year I participated
in three sports. I received the Defensive Player of the Year in baseball
and the team voted me "The Work Horse" of the year. My sophomore
year I concentrated on just soccer and baseball. Playing soccer helped
to keep me conditioned for baseball. As a sophomore I was the
coaches' award pick. I played centerfield and pitched in baseball.
My philosophy in
coaching is to teach fundamentals and then go from there. I also believe
that you have to teach the players that you are coaching them to be relaxed
and learn the game. You have to make it fun for them, and show
them that you enjoy the game.
