Coach Markle

Josh Markle is with his 3rd season with the Lincoln Rebels, Lincoln’s premier youth baseball team. Coach Markle has help guide his teams to a combined record of 73-43, with 3 tournament championships.

Markle joined the Lincoln Rebels as an assistant coach in 2006. Where he was instrumental in helping the Rebel 9’s to a 24-26 record. Markle was then named the head coach of the Rebels 9’s in 2007 where he guided a very seasoned group to an overall record of 49-17.

Markle said the opportunity to join the Rebels staff was alluring for several reasons.

“The Rebels have a very high reputation in Lincoln and the State of Nebraska... The Rebels put an emphasis on development of players at a young age which is so important.”

“I am extremely fortunate that Coach B has allowed me to coach such driven young men, who are dedicated at becoming better athletes and baseball players.”

Markle’s coaching style is very traditional. He focuses on the fundamentals, attitude, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
“I feel the most important aspect of baseball is that we look, and play like a team. Individual success’ are nice, however to win championships the kids have to play as a team.”

Prior to coaching, Markle spent two years playing collegiate baseball at Southern Illinois. While at SIUC under Coach Dan Callahan, Markle’s teams made it to the Missouri Valley Conference championship before falling to Wichita State both years. In 2004, Markle helped anchor a defense that lead all of Division 1 in double plays. Prior to SIUC,

Markle spent two years at Treasure Valley Community College as a pitcher for Coach Gary Van Tol. Markle played summer baseball playing in the Pacific International League for the Kelowna B.C. Falcons and the Wenatchee (WA) AppleSox. 

Markle graduated from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in Economics in 2004.  Josh is currently employed at Kenexa Technologies working in sales. He is married to Vikki Markle, and they have two children Drew (3) and Cooper (2).
